Alive and kickin' in DC
So yeah, I'm soaking up the lovely wifi, gearing up for the next few days. Hopefully I'll have some entertaining photos from preconference fun to post later. [Just after I typed that, my camera went on the fritz. We'll see if it's behaving better later.]
Each conference has a different kind of crowd. Even if the different crews of peeps you chill with at each conference share members, the feel of the crew is different. For instance, here's a few things to know about the CIL crew I hang with:
- If you leave your laptop unattended for more than 30 seconds, the crew will protect your stuff as if it were there own with their *lives*. Oh, and they'll use it like it's theirs, too.
- All the cool kids hang out in the bar. The good one. Not the cheesy, comfy chair one.
- You will not sleep for 3 days. It's worth it.
I'm doing a few things this year that I didn't do last year.
- I'm hosting a Dine-around. Dine-arounds are wicked cool.
- I'm blogging for CIL on my blog. I'm all pressed up and everything.
- I'm staying in the conference hotel. I've learned the hard way that, even if you live in town (e.g., ALA Midwinter in Boston), you really need to stay at the conference hotel. Or, not have a problem getting home at 3am.
Trying new things at conferences is fun. Especially when you have a support network that will laugh at, and with, you while you do it.
