Yahoo! Maps *and* Traffic

Yahoo!'s been pretty busy lately, what with buying Flickr, and now the addition of traffic reports to Yahoo! Maps (I'm not sure when it occured, but I'm glad to see it). You can enter your zip code to get traffic reports for your area (the list of cities covered is growing), or map a trip and have Yahoo! Maps show you where the trouble spots might be along the way. Which is way easier and more usable than bouncing back and forth between your mapped location or trip and an online traffic report service.

Once you're set, you can send the trip or area information straight to your phone using SMS. It really does speak to the melding of technologies and uses on the web, and the demand from users for that to happen.

My love for web mapping is fickle, and I think Yahoo! Maps might now be my favorite. We'll see if the service is good enough for them to stay at the top of the heap.
