February 7, 2007
January, or, The Andrea Technology Roadshow
My apologies if you've already heard this (new and different stuff at the end if you have) --
Jan Saturdays: Worked all but the Saturday of the conference (see below). Resulted in a month full of one-day weekends, and thus, no posting.
Jan 13 - 17: Get ready for Midwinter, setting up volunteer bloggers for PLA, catching up on stuff at work, and getting life in order. And a few other things.
Jan 18 - 23: Go to ALA Midwinter in Seattle. Have an awesome time, do a fabulous interview with David Pogue that gets highlighted on the oreilly.com home page, get drafted to work on a really interesting wiki project for PLA, randomly help an animal shelter and rescue fundraise on a street corner while cuddling a rescued ferret, see friends and colleagues, meet nifty new people, go to parties, climb the space needle, visit the Seattle Public Library for all of 5 mintues, meet the super candidate for ALA Council Amy Harmon, have a touristy day with Heidi Dolamore and her mom, decide it's a must-return vacation location, call husband and tell him so, have tea and crumpets at the Pike Place Market, and more.
Jan 24: Arrive at Logan 12:30a. Back to work at 4p that day. Struggle a bit with mild jet lag and the eternal uncold.
Jan 25: Continue the road show, attending a meeting in Methuen and presenting about social software to reference librarians. I adapted my panel presentation from NAHSL to include public library examples as well as more technologies, and it went over really well.
Jan 26: Dre's Techie Junket continues closer to home, talking to a friend and her staff about offering classes at the Cambridge library.
Jan 24 - 27: While all that other stuff is going on, choose the final cut on a volunteer program I'm running a the library. Also, receive various solicitations from people at the Jan 25 presentation to do more presentations for them, and try to figure out how to reconcile and consolidate them.
Jan 30: Another Saturday at work, 9-5p, including more volunteer interviews. After work, finished my first crocheted sweater ever. It doesn't fit me, it's too big, but it's a good first try. Pics on flickr forthcoming.
Plus: An overwhelming need for extra sleep because I've had a half-cold all month, and, well, I've been wicked busy. Much inhaling of tea and vitamins, as well as nutritious foods, and napping.
February might be just as crazy, in a different way. I'll be training Netguides, beginning my class schedule, getting ready to go to the PLA Spring Symposium and probably do a workshop on using and editing wikis while I'm there (at least, that's the current plan). Oh, hey, and relaxing on my weekends, since all my Saturdays are free this month. :)
